Healing From God

Healing is actually quite a controversial biblical/God subject. Not because people don’t see miracle healings or believe the ones they read in the Bible, but because people always question “Why him/her and not me? Or why that person, but not that person? The answer is simple and difficult all at the same time.

My first comment would be, that we are not God…omniscient – all-knowing. Therefore we can never quite be sure of His ways, but the Bible makes it clear; His ways are higher than our ways. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) Basically, in military terms, God is saying He outranks us and we wouldn’t understand His motives and plans for billions of people, so accept and TRUST He knows best. Respect His decisions and accept them.

From a personal standpoint, I have been miraculously healed from a few things and I have stood over my own mother as she was dying and claimed her healing in front of several doctors, nurses, and one family member. Her vitals immediately responded and she lived another 15 years after I witnessed her dying in front of my eyes. On the other hand, I have prayed fervently and watched others do the same, and that person left the earth. I knew it wasn’t my decision, but in my experience, FAITHFUL prayer normally changes things. The Bible teaches that as well. Jesus often tells people, “Your faith has healed you.” Obviously, faith has an important role in answering prayers.

Mark 10:52 – “And Jesus said to him, Go; your faith has made you well. Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.”

Mathew 15:28 – “Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your faith is great; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.”

Matthew 9:22 & Mark 5:34 – “But Jesus turning and seeing her said, Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well. At once the woman was made well.” (The woman with the bleeding issue)

Matthew 9:29 – “Then He touched their eyes, saying, It shall be done to you according to your faith.”

I could post a hundred Bible stories like this, but you get the point. Jesus also listened to prayer requests and petitions by others for others. Peter’s mother-in-law was healed, (Luke 4:38) Lazarus was brought back from the dead, (John 11:38-44); the centurion’s servant was healed; (Luke 7:1-10 & Matthew 5:8:13), and many children were healed at the request of their parents. (John 4:47 & Matthew 17:14-16) Luke 7:11-15 – A widow’s son is brought back to life DURING the funeral procession and Jesus raises a dead girl. (Mark 5:21-43)

You may also notice that these stories are found in ALL the Gospels, proving that all the disciples witnessed Jesus perform these miracles over and over. So how do you get your healing from God? Ask. BELIEVE! Show gratitude.

When I was in theology school, having recovered from 2 years of being bedridden after the 1996 Khobar Towers Bombing, suddenly I had blurred vision, the inability to walk well or type. Suddenly, it seemed as though my world was falling apart. I was sent to a neurologist who found an MS brain lesion on my PONS (non-surgical area of the brain) and was diagnosed with that debilitating disease.

I remember heading to the neurologist for my second brain scan within a 3 month period of time. As I was driving to the test facility, I was sobbing, but talking to God at the same time. I said, “I do not believe you saved my life and told me to build a church after being deathly ill just to incapacitate me again.” “I KNOW you will heal me and I can keep moving forward with the plan you have shown me for my life.” I had already had a spinal tap, (ouch) then I completed the second scan…

I don’t know when the symptoms stopped, but they did. So quickly, I didn’t notice. Why? Because I was concentrating on building the church and doing my school work while mostly ignoring my limitations. I had told Dr. Johnson, (the neurologist) that God was going to heal me when he showed me the brain lesion. He looked at me with much compassion and sympathy and said “Lisa, I am a Christian and believe in miracles, but I have never seen someone with a lesion like yours, cured of MS.” I said that I understood, but was adamant that God was going to cure me! He smiled, as if I were a child who believed in fairy tales, but said no more.

My appointment after my second scan was wonderful. By then I realized my symptoms had disappeared, but also knew MS had gone into remission. When called into his office, I noticed Dr. Johnson had an ear-to-ear grin. He said, “do you want to see your recent brain scan?” I followed him to the wall where the CT was backlit on the reading board. He showed me my lesion was still there, but it was encapsulated (like inside a balloon or cyst) and completely separated from my brain, just floating around on its own. I sat down, shocked, and said “How did that happen?” He had tears in his eyes and said “Lisa, we both know how this happened. God cured you.” We hugged and celebrated. He said, “you are released and come and see me if you ever need anything.” I still have a copy of that scan and have never needed to return it.

There are far too many healing scriptures to type them all, but here are a few for you to get started on healing whatever ills you. Remember, Jesus made clear, that FAITH is the medium to being healed. Truly believe the promises of the Bible, write the verses and tape them to different places around your house, and always thank God for your healing even if you haven’t seen it yet:

Psalm 30:2 – “LORD my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.”

Psalm 107:20 – “He sent out his word and healed them, snatching them from the door of death.”

147:3 – “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Not just physical healing, but emotional healing too)

Isaiah 58:8 – “Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the LORD will protect you from behind.” (Not only does He save you, heal you, but then He protects you!)

I will leave you with these 3 verses:

James 5:14-16 – “Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

AMEN and thank you for the prayers for my brother. He is doing fine and the angiogram didn’t show anything that required intervention or surgery. Thank you, Lord! Thank you, prayer warriors
