Show God You Love Him

Just about everyone knows and quotes John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (Also 1 John 4:9-10 and Romans 5:8, plus so many more) We live and die by this sacrifice, unconditional love, and promise from God to us. However, how many of you think of ways to show God you love Him in return?

There are so many ways you can show God you love Him. Pray and give Him praise. Thank Him for all your blessings rather than always lamenting your troubles or asking Him to give you something you want. Follow all of His commands, teachings, and precepts. Serve others as Jesus served and taught you. Spread The Good News to everyone. Last, but not least, LIVE your life in such a way that it brings glory to God and others can see His Light, Love, and Humanity in you!

Here is a very devout and loving prayer to God: O Lord, kindle in me a heart that burns for You alone. Let every breath be a hymn, every thought a turning toward Your light. Teach me to love You not for blessings received, but for the beauty of who You are—the mercy that bends low, the truth that stands eternal. When my spirit grows cold, wrap me in the warmth of Your presence; when my will falters, steady me with the strength of Your hand. May my love be steadfast as morning, deep as the ocean’s floor, and pure as the first drop of rain. Let it rise beyond fear, beyond self, until it rests wholly in You. Amen.

In this prayer, you are 100% focused on God, His glory, sacrificing for Him, and letting His light shine through you. You are SUBMITTING your will to God and asking Him to come into your body, mind, and soul, and lead you to His will for your life. This is just one example, but a very good example of how to show God you love Him through prayer and then letting God lead your life.

Be completely committed to, and devout in following The Word (Bible). God sacrificed His own son, then Jesus spent 33 years teaching us to be loving, caring, forgiving, and how to be a dedicated follower of God. By His example, He taught us to be willing to suffer for the Kingdom of God and not to wallow in self-pity when things don’t go as we desire/expect, but rather turn to God/The Holy Spirit for guidance and strength during our trials.

Furthermore, READING THE BIBLE and knowing His Word enables you to recognize God’s MO (Modus Operandi-defined: the way in which someone operates or works) so you not only know when it is God speaking to you or acting for your good, but you can teach others how to recognize God from secular drives/desires and prevent them from following Satan to Hell. (eternity without God)

One of the most common questions put to me is “how do I know it’s God and not myself or Satan causing a certain feeling or desire? If you read God’s book, (The Bible) you will learn who He is, how He acts, and where His heart lies, then you can know for certain if something is from God, Satan, or your own whims.

Serving others is another way you can show God that He is in you and that you truly love Him. There are many ways to serve humanity, and each of us are given gifts by our Holy Spirit so we can serve in a way that feeds our soul and the souls of others, while honoring God. Gifts of the Spirit include:

“Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other, you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore, I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. (1 Corinthians 12:1-11)

Make time to praise and worship God each day. Special time to show your appreciation for Him in your life and the sacrifices He has made for you. This is not much different than how married couples should treat each other. When you come humbly to God, showing your gratitude, appreciation, and recognizing all the blessings He has bestowed upon you, He hears you, and it is music to His ears. By doing these things, you are saying, “I love you unconditionally and respect your ways. I will follow you, not because I seek good things or favors in my life, but because I love you as much as you love me.”

When you live your life as I have described above, you become filled with the Holy Spirit, and His Light can truly shine through you. You are an example of Him on earth, serving, loving, forgiving, trusting, praying, worshipping, and obeying. When others see your light, they want to be close to you. This gives you the opportunity to spread the Word of God to everyone around you.

HOW YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE MATTERS! People are watching anyone who calls themselves a Christian and looking for ways in which we go against the will of God, giving them an excuse to mock us and God, then (feeling righteous in their behavior) walk away from the purpose and gifts He has for their lives. We are the earthly “shining star on the hill” for God, but if we forsake His Word and loving Him to pursue our own selfish desires and behaviors, we are repelling people from God rather than drawing them nearer.

I pray this sermon reminds you that loving God is important and must be reflected in your daily thoughts and activities. Praising and worshipping, while exemplifying and teaching what Jesus has taught us, is paramount to showing God you love Him. Following His commandments and precepts is critical in being the right example in this fallen world. As time passes, proving to God how much we love and respect Him becomes more critical. The world is falling apart, and in order to serve God and humanity, LOVE must be the driving force. Loving God in tangible ways, each and every day, is the first step in returning to God the proof of love He has provided to us. Amen.
